EAST Core is in full swing, prepping new teachers for the up-and-coming 2013-2014 school year. With the addition of two new schools, a new EAST staff member and more Tier training, there’s been no time to catch our breath around the Ranch. However, EAST Core staff members wouldn’t have it any other way.

I suppose last week was the official kickoff to the summer here at the Initiative, and boy are we kicking it off in style. We have grown into three suites and a whole building, which will come in use since we are hosting the first Phase I and Tier II trainings of the season and an administrative workshop. EAST at Stuttgart High School will collaborate with CAST to create an interactive map and study just how much topsoil is washed away by rainfall in Stuttgart, Ark., after receiving a $7,700 grant.

Students of EAST at Monticello Intermediate School were inspired by a fellow EAST classmate to clean up the school’s nature trail, which had not been tended to in years and was inaccessible to wheelchair visitors. EAST students worked to clean up the trail and reconstruct a bridge, in order to make the nature trail fun for everyone.
