More than $5,000 was awarded to Monticello School District to fund an Aquaponics Project by EAST students. Arkansas Community Foundation presented the grant from Delta Endowment in Monticello, AR. The project will involve students in the design, construction, and maintenance of an Aquaponics system.

Monticello School District Superintendent Bobby Harper reported to the board that the school year got off to a good start this week. “I think it’s going awesome,” Harper told the board. “We had a few rocky moments, but for the most part we’ve had a great start of the school year.”

Two EAST programs at schools in the area have received grants from BHP Billiton Petroleum for projects the programs’ students presented to the organization. Rose Bud and Searcy High School EAST programs each received a $5,000 grant from the Australian mining and petroleum company.

A Freshman EAST student at Yosemite High School has created a free mobile application that gives Android users – and soon others – a new way to get essential school information quickly and easily. Ahwahnee resident Garrett White, 14, designed the new application for YHS students, staff and parents.
