Star City EAST Students Receive National Award

Cara, Jade, and Jordan, students participating in the EAST program at Star City High School in Arkansas, recently joined the i-SAFE mission to promote Internet safety awareness in their community. Their superb efforts have also earned them the national i-SAFE Most Valuable Mentor (MVM) Award for November 2004.

Louis Armin-Hoiland, a biology teacher and Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) facilitator from Arcata High School in Arcata, California, is being credited as a role model for students in how extraordinary accomplishments can be achieved by working within the system to restore value to the community.

Students to Receive Governor's Award

The administration of federally and state mandated historic preservation programs in California has selected the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School’s EAST Class as one of ten recipients to receive the Governor's Historic Preservation Award for 2004 for their Mission Santa Ines Aqueduct Mapping Project.
2004 New Horizons Scholarship Winners Announced

The New Horizons Scholarship Council, has awarded two scholarships to two Arkansas EAST seniors. The scholarship award, up will help these students obtain an information technology bachelor’s degree at a public Arkansas college or university.
Local EAST program wins $35,100 grant

EAST Classroom of the Eureka Springs High School was awarded a $35,100 grant from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. Eureka Springs EAST Classroom will share the grant with the EAST Classrooms of Alpena, Fayetteville and St. Joe.
EAST Initiative is Subject of NETP Study

Through the National Department of Education’s Evaluating State Educational Technology Programs grant. The department will partner with Metis Associates, and the EAST Initiative to conduct the study of the EAST programs in schools nationwide.

EAST Initiative has been awarded a SMARTer Kids™ Grant for SMART Products from the SMARTer Kids Foundation. Under this grant, all EAST schools are able to purchase SMART boards and stands at a discounted rate.
