EAST Student Wins NFAA Competition

Steve Wilson, a senior EAST student at Santa Ynez High School, recently won the video competition for the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) Presidential Scholars Program in Miami and received a check for $10,000.

North Heights EAST students receive certificate from captain serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. These students were rewarded for their efforts by the captain of the 755 postal unit in Iraq.
Eureka Springs EAST Receives Weyerhaeuser and ACF Grant

Eureka Springs High School EAST Lab Facilitator Mila Lynne Powell and Media Specialist Alice McNeal received a $500 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation and the Arkansas Community Foundation. Mrs. Powell and Mrs. McNeal received their Teacher Mini-Grant Award.
Bryant EAST Receives One Class at a Time Grant

The Bryant High School South EAST Lab received a $500 One Class at a Time Grant from Fox 16 News at 9 and Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield for B.L.A.S.T. (Bringing Learning Around Schools with Technology).
Eureka Springs EAST Receives Wal-Mart Grant

The Carroll County Community Technology Center received a $1,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation, for the purchase of equipment and software. EAST students Kaleb Killion and Kate Murphy received the check from Wal-Mart Supercenter (Berryville) Assistant Manager, Jimmy Davenport.
Santa Ynez EAST Featured by Trimble

Santa Ynez Valley Union High School's award-winning EAST project involving the mapping of eroding sea cliffs is now featured in an official Trimble application brief. The brief is sent worldwide to retailers and distributors, and can be found on Trimble's website.
Eureka Springs EAST Students Receive Technology Center Grant

The Carroll County Community Technology Center received a $2,000 grant from the Carroll County Community Foundation (CCCF) for the purchase of equipment and software. Sam Kirk, CCCF Executive Director, awarded the grant funds to the EAST Lab of the Eureka Springs High School.

Furthering its commitment to helping strengthen nonprofits that serve people of all backgrounds and needs, the SBC Foundation - the philanthropic arm of SBC Communications Inc. - today announced that it has awarded an SBC Excelerator technology grant of $23,250 to the nonprofit EAST Initiative.

Edward E. Darbonne joins the EAST Initiative as President/CEO with a career path that includes teaching, fundraising and information systems management. Most recently Mr. Darbonne was the Chief Information Officer of a major university foundation in the Midwest.
Former EAST Student Joins EAST Board of Directors

EAST is excited to welcome the newest member of the EAST Board of Directors, Mr. RJ Martino. RJ comes to the board not only as its newest member, but also as its youngest (recently graduated from Univ. of Arkansas at Little Rock). RJ brings a wealth of EAST experience with him; he is an EAST alumnus of Bryant High School and the UALR EAST program.
